The Bridlington Sailing Coble Preservation
Society |
The
objects of the Society include the general promotion of the
history of local cobles, and also the provision of sea-going
experience to interested members and organisations.
Three
Brothers is comprehensively equipped with standard safety gear,
and that needed under schedules for navigation and seamanship.
Sailing conditions are carefully monitored, and Skippers of the
boat are to be qualified at standards no less than those required
for the Royal Yachting Association "Coastal Skipper."
- A sailing
logbook is kept, and the whole authority rests upon the Harbour
Master, and the Technical Sailing Committee of the Society. The
sailing is restricted to daylight hours only, and confined to a
sailing area in the Bay.
- The
Society also exists to give assistance to the Harbour
Commissioners in the maintenance and crewing of Three Brothers.
- Membership
of the Society needs to grow to continue this valuable work in
preserving part of Bridlington's seafaring heritage.
- Three
Brothers requires towing to sea before sailing and the Society is fortunate
that local commercial vessels offer a tow when necessary. The Society thanks
those concerned. Three Brothers needs to be cleaned and
painted regularly and funds have to be raised for the purchase of
safety equipment, fuel, etc.
- A member
of Bridlington Sailing Coble Preservation Society is entitled to
get hands and knees (and any other part of their anatomy) dirty,
paint with careless abandon (and in the process ruining their
clothes), mess about in boats and, if the weather and tides are
kind, to voyage in Three Brothers, a trip into history.
