Three Brothers |
Ian, Robert, Albert and myself (Ian Thompson) met at 10.00am. We boarded the Gannet and took it to the vertical ladder next to the Museum. No one else had arrived so we took the Gannet to the South Outfall buoy and then went back to the Three Brothers. Sufficient crew had assembled on the slip to enable the Three Brothers to sail.
The Gannet towed us out to the first sailing buoy by the harbour entrance. The small jib was deployed and three reeves put in the main sail.
A course was set to the south outfall buoy and as the wind was light a reef was taken out of the main sail.
We turned and headed towards Sewerby where the Gala was talking place. Plenty of people should have been able to see us sailing parallel to the coast. We turned towards Bridlington and nearly goose winged as we had the wind directly behind us. We reached the first of the three sailing buoys near the harbour entrance and lowered the main sail. The jib sail took us to the next buoy where that was lowered and the bowsprit pulled inboard. A tow was accepted from the Gannet and a steady pace was set back to the berth.
The Three Brothers was secured and the Gannet returned to its berth with a little bit of haste as the tide was receding quite quickly.
The crew departed at 3.30pm

There was insufficient crew for the sail on Friday 25th July. Some maintenance was done on the Three Brothers. Pumped out and new block put on main sail rigging. The mast box was checked and tie ropes adjusted.
