Three Brothers
Sailing Report, Sunday, 21st September, 2008

Jack and I arrived at the harbour just before 8.30am. The Gannet was boarded and the usual checks were made. The engine was turned with the starting handle, and then the electric starter was tried. The battery was dead, so the pump battery was added to the circuit with jump leads: still nothing. Other members of the crew arrived and they started asking other harbour users for help. A rapid starter was obtained, which when attached started the engine first time.

The Gannet was taken over to the Three Brothers. The large jib sail was tied on and just one reeve was left in the main sail.

A front tow was used to get the Three Brothers out to racing buoy no 9. The tow was released and the Gannet brought alongside as the sails were raised.

The light wind meant that the tide really decided where we were drifting to. We went into the North Bay and the tide took us gradually towards Flamborough Head. At 11.00 am we jibed round and set a course towards the harbour. We could not make any headway against the tide so the Gannet was brought alongside for a side tow back to the harbour. We returned to the berth at 12.00 noon and tied up both boats by 12.30 pm

Crew members: Robert McCall, Paul Russell, Allan Ross, Ian Johnson, Frank Bull, Albert Brownhill, Ian and Jack Thompson.
