Three Brothers |
Some of the crew boarded the Gannet at 4 pm. The usual checks were made before casting off and going to the Three Brothers.
The head ropes of the Three Brothers were slackened until the stern touched the quayside to allow the rest of the crew aboard.
The small jib sail was deployed and the three reeves kept in the main sail. The stern lines were removed and the Three Brothers was pulled to the bowline buoy.
The tow rope was passed to the Gannet and a front tow started. The tow was dropped near the racing buoy no 9. The bow sprit and jib sail were positioned before the main sail was raised.
The Three Brothers began moving at a stately pace of around three knots towards Flamborough Head. We continued on the same tack past racing buoy U. A new tack was then taken towards Sewerby then minutes later another tack back towards Flamborough.
Dark clouds were moving towards us as we set a course back to the harbour entrance. Rain started to fall and the wind appeared to be increasing in strength.
The main sail was taken down opposite Trinity Cut and we continued with the jib sail (still moving at around two knots).
When near buoy 7 a tow was accepted from the Gannet and we returned to the berth. The sails were stowed away and the Three Brothers made secure before returning the Gannet to its berth.
Departed at 7pm.
