Three Brothers
Sailing Report, Sunday, 11th May, 2008

The crew gathered on the Chicken Run just before 9.00am BST and then boarded the Gannet. The oil and diesel were checked and the engine started.

The Gannet was taken over to the Three Brothers berth where the crew transferred and set the sails. The large jib sail was used and two reeves put in the main sail. A front tow was used to get the Three Brothers out to the sailing buoy no 7. The Gannet stood by while the bow spit was run out and the jib sail raised followed by the main sail. The light breeze caught the sails and the Three Brothers moved slowly towards the South outfall buoy.

A tack was made and the Three Bothers sailed into the North Bay. More tacks were made as the Three Brothers sought the breeze.

As the tide was receding, a run to the harbour was made at 11.30 am. The Gannet was asked to be in close attendance as we approached the harbour entrance.

Predictably the wind was lost within 10 meters of the harbour entrance and the Three Brothers slowed nearly to a standstill. The Gannet picked up a side tow and took the Three Brothers back to the berth.

Crew : Ian Johnson, Frank Bull, Alan Ross, Jack and Ian Thompson.
