Three Brothers
Sailing Report, Sunday, 3rd August, 2008

The water had not quite reached the Three Brothers when we arrived at 3.30pm .We went to the Museum and collected the life jackets and compass bag. We went round to Gummers Wharf and bailed out Janine before the water reached her. There was sufficient water by 4.15pm to get aboard the Gannet. After the usual checks, the Gannet was taken to the Three Brothers and preparations made ready for a sail. The small jib was positioned and three reeves put back into the main sail.

The Gannet gave us a front tow out of the Harbour and past racing buoy 9. The tow was dropped and the bowsprit located then the jib sail was raised. The main sail followed soon afterwards. A course was set going due south. We passed the South outfall buoy and continued for another mile and a half before tacking and retracing our route. We continued tacking between the North and South Bay until 7.00pm.

A course was set to racing buoy no.3 near the harbour entrance. The sails were dropped and the bowsprit pulled aboard before a tow was accepted from the Gannet.

The Three Bothers was towed back to its berth and made fast. When all the sails had been folded away the Gannet was returned to its berth. Everyone was ashore by 7.30 pm.

The Gannet was very useful going back to the harbour to pick up ice cream all round.
