Three Brothers |
Forecast: Wind force 3 to 4, clear visibility. Max temp 14
Ian Johnson was preparing the Three Brothers when I arrived at the Quayside. I used the dinghy to board the Three Brothers and assisted Ian to bring the stern to the wall so the rest of the crew could board.
The Pirate boat came alongside to give us a tow just as we had placed the rudder for the second time. (A rope had been fouled at the first attempt).
The tow was dropped near the racing buoy and the bowsprit was pushed into position followed by the small jib sail and the main sail with two reeves again.
The wind kept gusting so the speed according to Ian’s GPS varied from 3 to 5 mph as the sails filled then flapped. A good run was made towards Flamborough Head before we had to turn shoreward to avoid potting markers.
Several tacks were successfully made as we moved around the North Bay. The wind chill started to be a problem for some of the crew so a run was made for the harbour entrance.
As we sailed towards the entrance the wind dropped so we turned away back into the North Bay. The Pirate boat came out of the harbour and came alongside so we accepted a tow back to our berth.
The dinghy was back in the racks by 4.00pm
