Three Brothers
Sailing Report No.2: Sunday, 15th April, 2007

Forecast: Mostly sunny warm max 21 wind SSW variable 2 or 3

Extensive fog patches, visibility moderate or poor.

Ian Johnson was already preparing the Three Brothers when Jack and I arrived at the Quayside. The flags in the harbour were only just fluttering as the Pirate boat gave us a tow to near the first racing marker outside the harbour.

The large jib sail was deployed and two reeves left in the main sail.

A course was set towards the Flamborough Headlands but the tide kept pushing us further into the South Bay.

The wind became virtually non existent so the oars were used to try and get some forward momentum. As we were slowly being pushed towards the South beach a passing trawl boat was asked for a tow to deeper water.

The wind was no different further off shore so we continued with the oars and moved slowly shoreward again.

The Pirate boat came alongside at 4 pm and towed us back to our berth.

Crew for the Three Brothers: Paul Russell, Albert Brownhill, Jan Norman, Michael Lowe, Ian Johnson, Frank Bull, Jack and Ian Thompson.
