Three Brothers
Sailing Report: 1300hrs, Sunday, 26th August, 2007

Wind NW 3 to 4. Visibility good. High Water 16.15 BST

The Three Brothers was prepared for sail at 1 pm BST. Ian Johnson had yet again beaten everyone else and was preparing the jib and main sail. The large jib sheet was deployed and three reeves set in the main sail.

The Three Brothers was pulled level with the head buoy and a tow was accepted from one of the private craft to a buoy near the dredger. Our usual tow vessel had just left as we neared the buoy so the private vessel took us out of the harbour. The tow was dropped by the racing buoy and the bow sprit positioned and then the jib sail deployed, followed by the main sail.

A course was set to the south sewerage buoy which we passed on our port side. The Three Brothers course was altered so the bow was pointing towards Flamborough Head. A steady sail was achieved for approximately 40 minutes before we made a ready about heading back towards Trinity Church as the landfall. When in line with the racing buoys we again turned towards Flamborough Head. At 3pm BST one of the crew stated that he was due back at work, so we turned towards the south with the sails on a run (almost goose wing).

The sails were dropped near racing buoy 6 and a tow accepted back into the harbour. We reached the berth at 4.30pm and had secured the vessel and dinghy by 5.30pm.

Crew members: Ian Johnson, Dave, Allan, Paul Russell, Mike, Ian Thompson
