Free Spirit Writers

Free Spirit Writers are husband and wife Mike and Diane Wilson, of Bridlington. They discovered a passion for the history of Bridlington when they were part of "Come Hell and High Water," the Bridlington Community play of 1995. Mike played the part of Kit Brown while Diane portrayed Ann Watson, sister of one of the men drowned when the lifeboat Harbinger capsized.

They have created a short piece containing prose, drama, poetry and song, which they perform for school and other parties on request.

Parties are invited to contact the couple to arrange visits. There is a charge of £15 per performance, which includes a visit to Bridlington Harbour Heritage Museum and a tour of the harbour if required. Groups of up twenty children and accompanying adults are welcome. Bigger parties should be split. Parties of up to twenty adults are also welcome.

Free Spirit Writers are also members of Bridlington Writers' Group and are involved in the National Association of Writers' Groups. Both Mike and Diane are published writers, with their poetry and articles appearing in several publications. They have also created pantomimes and murder mystery evenings.

Mike's novel Full Fathom Five - a fictionalised account of Kit Brown's life - is now available, while Diane has a compilation of poetry and prose, The Iron Harvest.

Full Fathom Five is available at the Museum. For every copy sold through the Museum the author will make a donation of 75p towards the Museum. You may order a signed copy (£5.99 post free, cheques payable to M. L. Wilson) from Mike Wilson, 40 Burstall Hill, Bridlington, East Yorkshire YO16 7GA. Please quote BSCPS when you order.
